The title says it all.
I haven’t been blogging lately, because my obsession with designer handbags has been the sole focus all my attention (school too of course). When Jason bought me that Limelight clutch, my love for Louis Vuitton was rekindled and we’ve been inseparable ever since.
But that’s for a different post. Today, we’re talking furniture.
A long time ago, I showed up to an estate sale a couple of hours after it began and lost out on a pair of Kartell Ghost Chairs that should have been mine. I was devastated, but I learned a very important lesson: get up earlier. Well, last night I was online and I decided to check out an estate sale company’s website to view pictures of the stuff they were going to be selling. (Note: Most estate sale companies have websites where they post pics of what will be sold at the estate that weekend so you know whether it’s even worth it to go.) The first few pictures were junk and I almost closed the browser when I spied this:
I almost died.
The Dorothy Draper Espana bunching dresser is one of the most coveted pieces of furniture in all of the design world. Just browse through Pinterest and you’ll see plenty photos of gorgeous interiors featuring this dresser. But owning one is a challenge because they’re rare and pricey. Check 1st Dibs and eBay and you’re sure to find a couple ranging from 2k to over 4k all depending on the condition.

There’s even a popular Ikea Rast hack that was inspired by this piece that I tried a few months ago, way before the possibility of finding a real one at a price I could afford was an option. See:

I was so anxious I couldn’t fall asleep last night. Was it authentic? I had no idea, but I knew even if it wasn’t I had to have it. By 6:45 I was out the door and on my way to the sale that was set to begin at 8:00. I was 6th in line standing in the cold. The second they opened the doors, it was mine…for a steal.
And it’s authentic. The Heritage Henredon maker’s mark is in the top drawer.
And it’s in great vintage condition.
And there’s a second one: in black. I get it next week. Cannot wait. Best estate sale find ever. EVER.
